  • Conduct Board

    CONDUCT BOARD

    Your Conduct Board will consist of a group of students, staff, and faculty. Board members are selected and trained on a variety of topics to be impartial in understanding the perspective of all students, no matter the circumstances. If your reported incident is referred to the Conduct Board, you should know: 

    • Prior to your hearing, you will be provided with the names of your board members. You may request to have a board member removed from your hearing. 
    • Your Conduct Board will consist of a minimum of three members, who will make decisions regarding the reported incident. WAC 504-26-110
    • A Presiding Officer is a licensed attorney with judicial training who ensures you receive a fair and impartial process and that the board is following all legal requirements. The presiding officer is not a member of your Conduct Board and does participate in discussions or deciding the outcome of your incident.
    • Conduct Board hearings occur when the potential outcomes (sanctions) could involve suspension of greater than 10 instructional days, expulsion or revocation of degree, matters in which a registered student organization faces possible loss of recognition, allegations of sexual misconduct, or by choice of your Conduct Officer. WAC 504-26-403
    • A majority (more than half) of board members must agree on your responsibility and any sanctions that are assigned to you. You will be notified of the decision by email within 10 calendar days of your Conduct Board Hearing.
  • Academic Integrity Board

    ACADEMIC INTEGRITY BOARD

    If your instructor has determined that you violated WSU’s academic integrity policies, you can appeal the academic integrity decision and request that the Academic Integrity Hearing Board conduct a separate, independent review of the findings. The Academic Integrity Hearing Board can only review whether or not you were in violation of those policies, and whether the outcome proposed by the instructor is what was published in the course policies. If the Academic Integrity Hearing Board finds you not responsible for the reported violation, they are empowered to provide an appropriate remedy. WAC 504-26-415 

    The Academic Integrity Hearing Board consists of teaching faculty and student representatives. The process for reviewing incidents related to academic integrity is outlined here.

  • Appeals Board

    APPEALS BOARD

    If you have been through a Conduct Officer hearing or Conduct Board hearing and you would like a review of the assigned sanctions, you can submit a form to appeal the decision. There are time limitations you must follow, please review the step-by-step process if you choose to appeal. Use the outline for the academic integrity process for incidents related to cheating, plagiarism, etc.

    About the Appeals Board:

    • Your Appeals Board will consist of three members, with the majority of members being your WSU student peers. One member will be appointed as the Chair who takes on responsibility for ensuring you receive a fair and impartial process and is also a voting member.  WAC 504-26-115
    • Your Appeals Board members have been through a selection process and trained on topics such as due process, burden of proof, cultural competency and implicit bias. WAC 504-26-120
    • Prior to your Appeals Board review, your board member names will be provided to you. 
    • You can also request to have a board member removed with good cause.
    • Appeals Board reviews are not held in person.
    • The Appeals Board must respond to your Conduct Officer hearing appeal within 20 calendar days or within 30 days if it was a Conduct Board hearing.
    • The Appeals Board can uphold the initial decision, reverse it, modify it, or send it back to the Conduct Officer or Conduct Board for additional review. WAC 504-26-420
